A vertical blind is made up of thin fabric slats which hang down from a horizontal track, with these slats you can completely cover the window or angle them to allow space between each slat to let light through.
How Do You Operate Vertical Blinds?
Vertical blinds actually have a very simple operating system which allows you to either move the slats side to side to open and close the blinds and the ability to rotate the slats to allow some light to enter the room. Most commonly vertical blinds are controlled with a stick or a wand, the stick or wand can be moved along the track to move the slats or rotated in order to rotate the blind slats.
Why Are Vertical Blinds So Common?
Vertical blinds are common for a lot of reasons, but two of the main factors behind their popularity are utility and cost. Put simply, vertical blinds are very versatile as they can be moved and rotated, which offers you a high level of control over the natural lighting in your home. For the cost element, these vertical blinds are cheap to make and as such are one of the less expensive blinds on the market, which makes them very attractive to buyers with budget on their mind.
What Advantages Do Vertical Blinds Have Over Other Blinds?

Vertical blinds are also incredibly useful when used near patio doors, as these blinds open horizontally, they can be used to allow easy access through wide glass doors, unlike other blinds that are opened vertically.
What Drawbacks Do Vertical Blinds Have Compared To Other Blinds?
There aren’t many downsides to vertical blinds, but if we had to identify one, it would be that they aren’t great in bedroom settings. As these blinds are made up of small slats, they do leave a small space where light could leak into a bedroom. So while these are all around good blinds, you’d be better with a blind made from one piece of material in a bedroom like a roller blind or roman blind.
