You may be surprised at just how little people need when it comes to their homes. The biggest families often make do with some of the smallest houses and, if you have essential things like a kitchen and bathroom, it’s natural to make do.
When buying a house, it’s important to make sure that it has the main things you want first. The right number of bedrooms and bathrooms is one of the biggest factors to consider. However, once these have been met, if you do come across a potential home with these other rooms, it can be a great benefit to the way you live.
Take a look at what they are.
- En Suite
An en suite is one of those things that you don’t notice how nice they are to have until you get one yourself. Having a little bathroom off your bedroom is a major perk, especially if you have a big family or regularly host guests.
If you’ve lived in a house with only one bathroom, you probably understand how annoying it is trying to work around everyone else. When you have an en suite, this issue is often eliminated.
Having your own bathroom that the rest of the house doesn’t have access to is an absolute game-changer at times and it’s hard to imagine how you did it before once you’ve got one.
- Utility Room
Although it’s perfectly normal to have something like your washing machine and dryer in your kitchen or bathroom, once you get a utility room, it’s hard to go back.
A utility room is exactly how it sounds, somewhere you put all your utility items and is a place to go when you need to get those specific chores done. Whether you just have a room to put these things in or you go all out with something like a utility sink and storage units, is completely up to you.
When you have a room that you can go to and get all those household jobs done, the rest of your house can feel a bit more like a sanctuary.
- Attic Space
People often collect and hold on to too many things. While this is certainly an issue that needs to be tackled at the root, it doesn’t help when you’re living in a place with limited storage.
When viewing a house, whether that’s to buy it or rent it, few people take the time to look in the attic. While the sellers might let you know that there is an attic, it may be very limiting when it comes to how much space is up there. You can also maximise your home’s liveable space with attic and basement renovations if you need an extra room for your family.
Even if you don’t use it for storage, having attic space can be a major bonus as it can be used as another bedroom or anything you want. Although it might not make a difference to whether you buy the house, having attic space is certainly a perk.
