With the 2022 Masters tournament just a few days away, golf fans are beginning to really scrutinise the US Masters odds to see which players have the best chance of donning the green jacket at the end of the four days of action at Augusta National.
As the best in the world converge on Georgia for the first major of the year, it’s hugely difficult to predict who will come out on top. The nature of modern golf is such that any one of a number of players could bring the form necessary to land the title.
However, if there’s one player we feel could have the potential to enjoy a successful Masters, it’s Collin Morikawa. The American has come on leaps and bounds over the last couple of years, and has two major championships to his name already. The Masters has eluded him so far, but this could be the year that he gets his hands on the green jacket.
Let’s have a look at a few reasons why Morikawa has a strong chance of tasting victory at Augusta, even if he might not be the top favourite in the latest golf betting tips.

Major-winning experience
Whilst the golfing community was left reeling as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the sport’s eventual return proved to be the making of Morikawa, as he claimed his maiden major championship triumph with victory in the 2020 PGA Championship. The event may have been held behind closed doors, but it gave Morikawa the taste of winning a truly top-tier tournament.
A year later, Morikawa backed up that success by winning The Open. Throughout a sun-kissed four days of action, the 25-year-old demonstrated the reasons why he has the potential to be a major winner for years to come.
A well-suited game
Morikawa does not necessarily possess the skillset of a typical modern golfer. Indeed, he is more in the mould of the old breed of player, making gains through accurate approach play and delicate putting. You don’t necessarily see the kind of long-range bombs from Morikawa that you might from someone like Bryson DeChambeau or Brooks Koepka, but he is proving that his own unique style of play is good enough to win majors.
The benefit of Morikawa’s style is that it holds up when the going gets tough. A game that relies on long-distance drives can more easily be swayed by mounting pressure, but there is a high degree of reliability in the way that Morikawa plays.
Calmness under pressure
Morikawa’s ability to keep a cool head is another reason he has enjoyed so much success of late. Even when a major title is on the line, there is no let-up in the way that the American carries himself, and you can always be sure that his head is clear as he approaches the winning line.
A sport like golf requires immense focus and concentration, and Morikawa’s ability to hold himself together is a major asset. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t be considered a favourite for the Masters.
