Present Day: Crafting The Ideal Cannabis Experience

Currently, cannabis breeders and growers are still advancing the boundaries when it comes to creating the ideal cannabis experience. This has led to so many different options for a variety of purposes; you can click here for top weed strains and their different functions.

Blending progressions made in genetics with an extending knowledge of cannabis plants, growers and breeders have the capability to create unique and strong strains tailored to satisfy the individual needs of users.

With such a wide array of cannabis strains, it is easy to view why the cannabis industry is flourishing and why an ever-growing number of people are turning to cannabis as an alternative medicine or source of relaxation.

2000s: Genetics Advances

The cannabis industry enjoyed considerable success in the 2000s thanks to genetic advancements. Genetic mapping has made it possible for cannabis breeders to pinpoint certain genetic characteristics in a single plant and use that knowledge to develop brand-new, distinctive strains.

This led to the development of numerous powerful and notable cannabis strains, some of which are still in use today.

1980s-1990s: Introduction Of Feminized Seeds

The introduction of feminized seeds in the 80s and 90s was a major stage in the growth of cannabis strains. Feminized seeds are manufactured by subjecting male cannabis plants to natural hormones, causing them to make female seeds. This completed the process of growing cannabis from seed, meaning plant clones were no longer necessary.

This made growing cannabis much easier and brought forth an even wider range of cannabis varieties to suit the needs and preferences of growers and users of cannabis.

1960s-1970s: Birth Of Hybrid Strains

The development of hybrids in the 1960s and the 70s was an important landmark in the evolution of cannabis strains. Combining the right aspects of Indica and Sativa, growers and users of cannabis were presented with plants having qualities which catered to their admiration.

This marked a notable shift in the approach as to how cannabis strains were developed, as growers and users were no longer bound to the natural varieties present since before the 1900s.

Early 1900s: Introduction Of Indica And Sativa

A great step forward in the evolution of cannabis strains was the introduction of Indica and Sativa in the early 1900s. At this time all cannabis plants were classified as hemp no matter their THC concentration level. After the introduction of Indica and Sativa, classification began to be based on the level of THC present in the plants.

This caused growers and users of cannabis to distinguish between plants with high and low THC levels accordingly.

Pre-1900s: The Start Of Cannabis Strains

Traveling back in time to the pre-1900s, when hemp was mainly used as a primary material; there weren’t any “strains” particularly. Instead, there were merely many varieties of hemp. This natural disparity caused the birth of plants which had unique characteristics e.g. taste and odor, which would be appreciated by hemp growers and users.

Conclusion

From its inception to the present, the history of cannabis strain evolution has been an amazing adventure. It is obvious that the evolution of cannabis strains has been crucial to the expansion of the industry through the introduction of Indica and Sativa, the appearance of hybrids, and the progress of genetics.

It’s no surprise that the cannabis industry is thriving and that more people are turning to cannabis for alternate kinds of relaxation and medicine given more effective methods of cultivation, a constantly expanding understanding of the plant, and increasingly potent and distinctive strains. We can only speculate as to what the future may hold for cannabis strains because the story is far from done.
