1. Get Wood Immediately
Right off the bat, gather wood when you spawn in a new server. You can do so by beating trees with your own hands. And it will not matter whatever kind of tree you take wood from, whether it is spruce, oak, or birch.
After getting some logs, turn them into planks and make a crafting table. This table allows you to turn your planks into tools such as pickaxes, shovels, axes, and even swords for protection. Consider making a boat too, as traveling on water is faster than on land.
2. Search for Nearby Villages
Once you finish crafting tools and a boat, traverse the land and look for the nearest village. Villages have available resources and items that are ready for you to use. These may include beds, coal, sticks, fruits, and crops.
Make a temporary home near a village as well. A good starter house will consist of a crafting table, some chests, a furnace – more on this in a bit, and if you happen to get one, a bed. These items will let you craft and store items, smelt any ores you gather, and sleep at night.
3. Dig Underground for Better Materials
After establishing your house, it is time to head underground for better materials. To make things easier for you, use a pickaxe when removing rocks and a shovel to get rid of sand, dirt, or gravel. Never dig directly below to avoid getting trapped. Instead, burrow in a stairway-like pattern. Additionally, consider getting a lot of stones, as you will need them to make more durable tools. You will also need them to craft a furnace for smelting.
After making stone-based tools and items, continue digging underground to search for iron ores, as you can smelt them into ingots that you can use to craft shields and even better tools and armor. Keep an eye out for coal, too, since you will need it for fuel and torches. Precious stones such as gold, lapis lazuli, and emerald that you find will also come in handy later.
And if you dig deep enough, you will find diamonds – arguably the most durable and precious materials in Minecraft. You can only get them with iron pickaxes as other materials will destroy them. But this condition is nothing, especially when you can craft diamond-based tools and armor. Watch out for lava deposits, cliffs, and monster spawners underground!
4. Establish Food Farms
Running and digging in Minecraft will make you hungry, and worse, you can die of starvation. So to prevent you from this risk, establish food farms. Crops are a good starter. All you need are some seeds or root crops, dirt, water, and a hoe.
Dig an area that you can fill with water and till the soil surrounding it with your hoe. Place some seeds or root crops on the tilled earth and wait for your crops to grow. Once ready for harvest, gather and turn them into even better food by crafting or cooking them, depending on their applicable recipe.
Aside from crops, make animal farms, too. After all, cooked meat restores more stamina compared to edible crops. Not to mention, some animals will provide you with additional materials such as leather, feathers, and wool. 5. Beware of Hostile Mobs
Minecraft is not just about creating mind-blowing structures or landscapes. The game is also famous for its selection of mobs – AI entities that resemble living creatures. Although passive beings, such as chickens, cows, and horses, exist in the game, there are hostile ones, too. And if you are a beginner, you better watch out for them.
For starters, some mobs spawn in the darkness or inside caves, especially if there are spawners nearby. They include zombies and skeletons that will attack you on sight. Zombies are melee enemies, while skeletons use bows and arrows to shoot you from far away.
Meanwhile, hostile mobs known as Illagers can spawn even during the day. This category has a wide selection of hostels that resemble your friendly villagers. They include parties of pillagers and ax-wielding vindicators.
Furthermore, keep an eye out for the infamous creepers. They move silently, and the only sound you will hear from them is a hissing similar to charged dynamites in pop culture. Run as fast as you can if you hear this hissing because they will explode after a few seconds and destroy the area surrounding them.
