MAZAMA CAMPGROUND

MAZAMA CAMPGROUND

Mazama Campground is nicely hidden in the forest just around Crater Lake, with over two hundred and fourteen sites, each featuring a bear-resistant food locker and a picnic table. Each campsite also has a fireside with a grill. It’s always lovely to have a campfire at night. The Mazama Campground allows you to pitch your tent or park your camper. You can also book rooms in its rustic lodges. There is no signal on the site, so it’s a way to unplug and enjoy the best of nature. Because the campground is filled with lots of trees, there are so many fun ranger-type activities. The camp also offers steel hikes that allow you to look over the crater. Completely worth it! With all the rocks and trees, be sure to pack up the best camp shoes for the ultimate camping experience.

LOST CREEK CAMPGROUND

LOST CREEK CAMPGROUND

The Lost Creek Campground is a small campground that allows only tents. Like the Mazama Campground, each site features a food locker resistant to bears, a fireside grill, and a picnic table. Unlike the Mazama Campground, there are few trees, and the sites are clean and spacious. Apart from visiting the blue waters of Crater Lake, at the Lost Creek Campground, you can spend your time backpacking, mountain biking, swimming, fishing, and enjoy the beauty of wildlife. After an epic day of adventure, most people spend their night stargazing — the view of the stars from the camp is simply phenomenal!

CAMPING IN THE BACKCOUNTRY

Rather than spend the nights at the campgrounds, you can decide to hike to the Crater Lake National Park backcountry instead. Day hikes are allowed, but campers must obtain permits to spend nights in the backcountry. The permits are, however, free. Camping in the backcountry is available all year round, but the best times to do so are from July to September. If you’re up for an adventure on a whole new level, you can consider Backcountry Camping in the winter. Just be sure that you have the right gear to withstand the frigid weather conditions. You can get some great camping gear at campingmind.com.

Crater Lake is such a fantastic camping experience with beautiful sunsets, lovely wildlife, fun activities, and of course, the serenity of the lake itself. The entire terrain transforms into a winter wonderland of some sorts with cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. In all, brace yourself for an adventure of a lifetime!
