In 2021, the minimum hourly wage for jobs in South Korea is around 8,720 Won or 7.55 USD, and the minimum yearly wage for legal employment of foreigners is 28-30 million Won or 24,260 USD-25,992 USD(referring to the working standards for foreigners’ employment visas in 2021) even though the pandemic has hit the job market. However, there are still many foreign students who are looking for job opportunities or want to earn a living outside of their school. In this article, Ziposs has gathered some information on where you can find part-time, internship, and regular work in South Korea.
The two apps commonly used when looking for jobs in Seoul, Korea are Saramin(사람인) and JobKorea(잡코리아). There are various recruitment information from small companies, medium-sized companies, large companies, startup companies, expatriates, internships, part-time jobs, and so on. You can apply to the companies according to their requirements as you follow, as well as the signature calendars of large and medium-sized companies. You can also submit your resume directly on their websites (except for some companies). Also, since you mainly use resumes that are in the Korean language, it is recommended that you ask some of your Korean friends to help revise them after writing your resume.
Foreign company
You can follow Linkin, mainly using English resumes, and most of the recruitment information is in English. You can find information from different foreign companies such as Procter & Gamble, Xiaomi, LV, etc. Albamon(알바몬) and Alba Heaven(알바천국) are websites that gather all kinds of information for part-time jobs, but as a reminder, everyone should look for a formal company when applying for a part-time job to understand the work situation, and to prevent from being deceived by other parties.
Recruitment information for international students
In www.studyinkorea.go.kr, career center websites of various schools, and social media accounts related to job recruitments(such as Korean life, Korean recruitment, 10-day Korean information station, etc.) can find recruitment information for non-Korean students. South Korea’s large companies and some medium-sized companies have their own recruitment pages. You can go to their official websites and look for pages like “Job Postings(채용공고)” to confirm the recruitment information.
Large South Korean companies are divided into 공채(starting in March or September each year) and 수시채용(recruiting at any time). Applicants must know the company’s open recruitment time because there are only recruitments twice a year, and if you miss it, you will have to wait for the recruitment season. As for recruitment at any time, you should always pay attention to the recruitment website. For recruitment websites, the resume format is formulated by the company. Just fill in the box on the page for the basic information, there will be 3-5 open-ended questions(such as application motivation, corresponding to the position, abilities, understanding of the company’s business philosophy, etc.). You can find a lot of tutorials on how to fill in these questions online. It is recommended that you prepare in advance, and then change the content of the framework in different recruitments.
Projects and exhibitions
- Employment Exhibition for Foreign Students.
Every fall, the Employment Expo for International Students in Korea is held. In previous years, it was held at COEX. You can register online and also register on-site. However, it was changed to online last year due to the pandemic. There are many small companies, but there are also a few large Korean companies in the expo. After viewing the recruitment information, you can submit your resume on the same day, wait for the company’s review, and then participate in the interview.
- Internship programs for large South Korean companies such as Big Bear, SK, and CJ will provide some opportunities for internship programs for international students.
The competition is fierce, but it will also be helpful for a student’s future employment. Some programs also provide opportunities for regularization. This kind of recruitment needs to pay attention to the company’s official website and upload resumes in a proper and timely manner.
- Seoul City Hall- Foreign Intern Program.
During the winter and summer vacations each year, the Seoul Metropolitan City Hall will carry out non-Korean internship programs for about one month, working 5 days a week, 6 hours a day, and a daily salary of about 52,000 won(based on 2020). The attendance rate is 80% or more in order to obtain an internship certificate.
